Pirates’ Williams allows one run vs. Braves
Trevor Williams allowed one run in six innings and did not factor into the decision against the Braves on Wednesday. He served up a longball to the first batter he faced (Ronald Acuna) and then yielded just one more base hit the rest of the way. He fanned four and issued two walks in the quality start. Williams has allowed a grand total of four runs in 42 innings over his last seven starts combined. His ERA is down to 3.44 overall to go with a 10-9 record and 1.20 WHIP in 25 starts for the season as a whole.
Cardinals’ Mikolas allows 12 hits to Rockies
Miles Mikolas yielded five runs — four earned — in 4 2/3 innings Friday against the Rockies in Coors Field. Considering that Mikolas gave up 12 hits, two of them homers, it’s really pretty amazing that he allowed just five runs, one of which wasn’t even earned. David Dahl getting thrown out at home to end the third inning helped. It’s the first time all season that Mikolas has allowed five runs. He hadn’t given up more than eight hits previously.
