José Alvarado (elbow) is expected to resume throwing this week. Alvarado landed on the injured list last week with left elbow inflammation, and is expected to resume throwing this week after an MRI came back clean for any ligament damage. The hard-throwing 27-year-old left-hander has blossomed into one of the premier relievers in baseball this season, and figures to return to Philadelphia’s closing role sometime in early June.
