Mets go 1-5 on homestand
After being swept at home by the Dodgers, New York lost two of three at Citi Field versus the Pirates including a 5-3 loss on Wednesday. The Mets held a 3-0 lead through seven innings in the series finale, but Pittsburgh scored once in the eighth and then added four runs in the ninth off New York closer Jeurys Familia to complete the comeback. Familia did not record an out, giving up the four earned runs on three hits and a walk before getting yanked. Asdrubal Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a double to help pace the Mets offense. Wilmer Flores contributed a solo home run in four at-bats.
Marlins shut down by Greinke
Miami lost the last three games of a four-game home series against the Diamondbacks, falling 4-0 in Thursday afternoon’s finale. The Marlins were shut out in the first seven innings by Arizona ace Zack Greinke. Despite recording 10 hits, none went for extra bases and Miami was unable to cross the plate. J.T. Riddle led the way by going 3-for-4. Bryan Holaday ended the game 2-for-4.
New York will turn to deGrom (5-3, 1.69 ERA) for today’s game, while 22-year-old Sandy Alcantara (0-0, 0.00) will be called up to make the start for Miami.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 15-37 in their last 52 games overall. New York is 5-12 in its last 17 road games.
Miami
The over is 7-3-1 in the last 11 Marlins games overall. The over is 10-2-1 in deGrom’s last 13 starts versus Miami.
Prediction:
This is certainly not an easy stretch of pitchers Miami has faced lately with Robbie Ray and Greinke wrapping up the Arizona series, only to see deGrom tonight. There is no denying deGrom has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season and even after an underwhelming start last time out at home against the Dodgers, he should be ready to roll tonight versus a much weaker Marlins lineup. Alcantara is highly touted, but also still raw and the Mets should be able to tag him for enough run support for deGrom to cruise.
