Mets regain huge pitching piece vs. Braves
Jacob deGrom already has a knack for dominating the Braves. Today, he’s looking to make up for lost time as well.
New York’s fireballer takes the hill for his second assignment of the season in this afternoon’s series finale, with a 1:35 p.m. ET first pitch at Turner Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI like the charged-up visiting squad as a 1.5-run favorite. As for the over/under total, it rests at 7.5 runs.
Right lat tightness forced deGrom out of his debut on April 8 following six innings, and the subsequent birth of son Jaxon kept the prized hurler on the sidelines – until now. The 2015 All-Star couldn’t pick a better opponent against which to return, either. He’s 2-1 with a 1.32 ERA and 33 strikeouts over the past four meetings with Atlanta.
All of Terry Collins’ rotation members have actually displayed similar dominance during the Mets’ 7-2 stretch, posting a collective ERA of 2.48 after struggling to register a 3.76 mark through the first seven contests. Then there’s the offense, which boasts 23 homers in the last nine games. Saturday night’s 8-2 win alone featured a campaign-high 15 hits.

What’s Fredi Gonzalez to do? For starters, pray that Aaron Blair acquits himself well in big-league challenge No. 1. The former first-round draft pick went 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 22 punchouts at Triple-A Gwinnett. These Mets, however, represent entirely different animals and will be even more motivated with deGrom back in place.
