Mets Season Odds
Oddsmakers must feel that the New York Mets fixed their bullpen issues this offseason because they’ve established the club’s odds to win the 2009 World Series at 8/1.
One of the biggest issues the Mets had last year (besides a massive second half collapse), was their bullpen. So this offseason, general manager Omar Minaya went out and signed former Angels’ closer Francisco Rodriguez (who saved a record 62 games last season) and former Brewers’ closer J.J. Putz to be K-Rod’s setup man.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global must have liked the additions because they established the Mets’ odds to win the 2009 World Series at 8/1. Oddsmakers also made New York’s odds to win the National League Pennant at 3/1.
The Mets certainly have the talent to not only win the National League, but also the World Series. But they obviously need to produce. Guys like David Wright, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado comprise one of the best lineups in the National League. But the bullpen has to come through this season and the starting rotation has to stay healthy, starting with ace Johan Santana.
The Mets play in the toughest division in the National League, but they should make a lot of noise. As long as they can keep the Phillies, Braves and Marlins at bay, they’ll going to have a shot to play in October.
