The pitching matchup tonight has Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-6, 3.63 ERA) on the mound for the Dodgers to face Michael Fulmer (10-10, 3.78) of the Tigers. Ryu has been pretty good for some time, allowing just three runs over his last three starts. He has 94 strikeouts with 28 walks on the season and a 1.30 WHIP. Fulmer has been struggling lately. He has allowed 23 runs over his last four starts, a total of 21.2 innings. He has 102 strikeouts with 34 walks this season and a 1.16 WHIP.
The Dodgers opened the series on Friday with an 8-5 win on the road. They have now won five straight games. Los Angeles is now 86-34 overall and 35-20 on the road. Detroit is 53-68 overall and 29-29 at home.
The Dodgers jumped on Jordan Zimmerman early, hitting him up for seven runs in 5.1 innings to hand him a 10th loss. Rich Hill got his ninth win by allowing three runs over five innings. Corey Seager drove in three runs to lead the Dodgers while Chris Taylor had four hits and two RBI. The Tigers were led by Justin Upton, who had two home runs and three RBI. Upton now has 25 home runs and 88 RBI on the year.
The Dodgers are the class of MLB right now and the Tigers are far from that. Fulmer was once pushing for a Cy Young run, but has completely fallen apart in recent weeks. That’s not likely to change against a Los Angeles team that has put up at least five runs in their last five games. Ryu has been much better on the mound and will do well against this depleted Detroit lineup.
