From Rotoworld: Gray allowed four runs — two earned — over six innings in his Yankees debut Thursday, a loss to the Indians. The first play of Gray’s Yankees career was a fielding error by Chase Headley. Then a ground out, then a fielding error by Tyler Wade. Then a Jose Ramirez two-run single that included a throwing error by right fielder Clint Frazier. Things got better from there — he allowed two more runs in the sixth inning but pitched well in general, giving up just four hits and three walks overall — but he took the loss in his debut. Gray will look for a better result Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Estrada struck out seven while allowing three runs over seven innings in Saturday’s no-decision against the Astros. Estrada and Astros starter Charlie Morton put up near-identical lines on the night, leaving both without a say in the decision. Estrada gave up five hits and walked two to go with his seven strikeouts. He’s pitched better in recent starts but still has nothing to show for it, having still not won a decision since May 27. The 34-year-old is 4-7 with a 5.12 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 134/53 K/BB ratio in 23 starts this year.
Bet Tonight’s Yankees vs. Blue Jays Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Blue Jays are just 2-6 in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. They’re also 5-11 in Estrada’s last 16 starts versus divisional opponents and are 4-10 in his last 14 outings following a quality start in his last appearance. Toronto has dropped 13 of Estrada’s last 18 starts on astroturf and is winless at 0-4 in his last four home starts versus a team with a winning record.
