OUR PREDICTION
This is a nice spot to roll the dice on the underdog. We still don’t know much about Peters but he was excellent in his 2018 debut, tossing six shutout innings against the Cubs. He didn’t strike out a lot of batters in the minors but one of the reasons why he’s up in the majors is because he displayed excellent control at the lower levels. Peters also does a nice job of inducing ground balls and he limited the home runs in the minors as well.
Velazquez, meanwhile, got torched for nine hits over just 2 2/3 innings against the Braves. He did have a nice spring but the Phillies have been dreadful with him on the mound. In his last 19 starts, Philadelphia is 7-19. In his last 13 home outings, the Phillies are 3-10. Finally, they’re 3-9 in their last 12 games against the rest of the National League East when Velasquez toes the rubber. I’m fading him tonight.
