Monday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – The Philadelphia Phillies will welcome back star second baseman Chase Utley Monday night as they open a home series with the Cincinnati Reds, one of 10 games on the MLB schedule.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the host Phillies a -165 favorite in the matchup and the Reds are set as a +155 underdog. The over-under is set 7.5 runs, while the start time is 7:05PM EST.
Utley returns after missing nearly two months with knee tendinitis. He batted .275 with 16 home runs in 115 games last season and will be a key addition in the middle of the Philadelphia lineup.
Starting for the Phillies will be left-handed Cole Hamels, who sports a 5-2 record and a 2.92 ERA. Cincinnati’s Bronson Arroyo takes his turn in the rotation and he is 3-4 with a 4.11 ERA.
According to the latest MLB trends, Hamels is a perfect 6-0 with a 1.07 ERA in seven career starts versus the Reds. Arroyo has a 1-5 mark and a 5.54 ERA in eight appearances (seven starts) against the Phillies.
In other National League action, the San Diego Padres host the St. Louis Cardinals at 10:10PM EST. The Cardinals are a -136 favorite and the over-under is set at 6.5 in pitcher-friendly PETCO Park.
Over in the American League, the MLB-best Cleveland Indians are coming off a sweep of Cincinnati as it gets set to host the Boston Red Sox tonight at 7:10PM EST. The Red Sox are -120 favorites, while the over-under is 8.5 runs.
The New York Yankees play at home versus the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:10PM EST. The Yankees are -164 favorites, while the over-under is 9.
