(The Spread) – Can the Boston Red Sox finally get themselves in the winning column Friday afternoon in their home opener at Fenway Park as they take on the rival New York Yankees?
The Red Sox were widely considered the favorites to win the AL East and the American League as a whole, but have so far flopped as they have been swept in Texas and Cleveland to make their record 0-6. New York, on the other hand, has won two of three at home versus Detroit and Minnesota to give it a 4-2 record.
John Lackey (0-1, 22.09 ERA) will throw for Boston, while Phil Hughes (0-1, 11.25 ERA) takes his turn for the Yankees in a battle between two starters who struggled in their opening outing.
According to online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the Red Sox are -123 favorites and the over-under is set at 10. According to the latest trends, Hughes is 1-3 when starting against Boston with an ERA of 5.70 and a WHIP of 1.633. His team’s record is 3-3 in these starts and the under is 2-3. Lackey is 6-9 when starting against the Yankees with an ERA of 4.26 and a WHIP of 1.503. His team’s record is 11-12 in these starts and the under is 13-10.
Elsewhere in the MLB, the New York Mets play at home at 4:00PM EST as they host the Washington Nationals. The Mets are -145 favorites and the over-under is 7.5. The Atlanta Braves play at home versus the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:30PM EST. Philadelphia is a -108 favorite, while the over-under is 7. At 8:00PM EST,. the Chicago Cubs play at the Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee is a -122 favorite and the over-under rests at 8.5.
Back in the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays are still searching for their first win as they play at the Chicago White Sox. Chicago is a -141 favorite, while the over-under is 7.5. Seattle is a -124 favorite at home as they play the Cleveland Indians, while the over-under is 7.5.
