Twins score in five straight innings
Minnesota scored in every inning between the third and seventh Saturday afternoon in a 6-2 victory at Tampa Bay. Marwin Gonzalez helped pace the offense as he finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Byron Buxton ended the game 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Eddie Rosario was 2-for-3 plus a walk. Jason Castro went 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Kyle Gibson picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on six hits over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Jake Odorizzi will start tonight for the Twins as he comes in with a 7-2 record, 2.16 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 61 strikeouts over 58 1/3 innings.
Rays fall for second straight day
Tampa Bay lost by a count of 6-2 at home Saturday afternoon to fall to 35-21 overall and 17-13 at home. Christian Arroyo helped pace the Rays offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Travis d’Arnaud ended the contest 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Nate Lowe finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Yonny Chirinos took the loss as he surrendered four earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over 5 1/3 innings. Ryan Yarbrough will start today for Tampa Bay as he enters with a 4-1 record, 5.53 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 27 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins are 11-2 in their last 13 road games. Minnesota is 8-0 in the last eight Odorizzi starts.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 12-3 in their last 15 Sunday games. Tampa Bay is 5-0 in the last five Yarbrough starts.
Prediction:
Odorizzi might be in line for some regression as the season progresses, but he’s pitching at a very high level right now and should get some run support today from a red-hot Twins offense. Minnesota has some swagger right now with the best record in baseball and I don’t see an argument against taking the Twins here as they’ll look to make a statement leaving town.
