Five-run seventh topples Brewers
Milwaukee surrendered five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night in a 5-3 defeat at Minnesota to fall to 31-25 overall and 13-14 on the road. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, while the Brewers’ rally the next two innings fell short. Yasmani Grandal went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a triple to pace the offense. Keston Hiura finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Ryan Braun was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Alex Claudio took the loss in relief as he surrendered three earned runs on two hits with no strikeouts or walks over one-third of an inning. Chase Anderson starts tonight for Milwaukee as he enters with a 2-0 record, 3.25 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 29 strikeouts over 27 2/3 innings.
Pirates split four-game series
Pittsburgh picked up a 7-2 victory Wednesday afternoon at Cincinnati to earn a split of the four-game series. The Pirates scored three in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie, while they pushed the advantage to 7-0 in the seventh inning. Josh Bell helped pace the offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs. Colin Moran finished 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Bryan Reynolds ended the contest 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Steven Brault picked up the win as he threw 5 1/3 shutout innings with three hits allowed, five strikeouts and two walks. Joe Musgrove will start tonight for Pittsburgh as he comes in with a 3-5 record, 4.27 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 45 strikeouts over 59 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 11-5 in their last 16 games versus a right-handed starter. Milwakuee is 2-7 in its last nine games versus the NL Central.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 1-6 in their last seven home games. Pittsburgh is 2-5 in the last seven Musgrove starts.
Prediction:
Musgrove has dealt with some bad luck this season and a few horrendous starts. He’s had two terrible starts, one average start and one exceptional start his last four times to the mound. Do you trust him? Anderson is more consistent and is backed by a strong offense, which should pound out some runs today even while in a ballpark more tailored for pitchers. Christian Yelich is coming off an 0-for-4 game in a loss, so I’d watch out if I were Musgrove. The Brewers will also have relief ace Josh Hader available. I’m taking the favored visitors.
