Marlins’ Richards coming off ugly loss to Brewers
Trevor Richards coughed up six runs — five earned — in 3 2/3 innings to swallow a loss against the Brewers on Friday. He got off to an inauspicious start, walking in a run in the first inning. The fourth inning was a nightmare: he allowed five runs on two homers and a triple.
Richards struck out five batters in the game but walked six and surrendered five hits — four of which went for extra bases. He falls to 0-2 with an unsightly 6.16 ERA in four starts. The 24-year-old rookie skipped Triple-A but might ride a bus there soon.
Dodgers’ Kershaw out-dueled by Nationals’ Scherzer
Clayton Kershaw allowed four earned runs, nine hits and no walks with four strikeouts over seven innings in Friday’s loss to the Nationals. Kershaw lost the rare battle between three-time Cy Young Award winners, as Max Scherzer was much more efficient.
It was the first time a pair of three-time Cy Young winners hooked up since Greg Maddux against Roger Clemens back in 2006. Kershaw didn’t lose his third decision until Sept. 7 last season. He’ll next take the ball on Wednesday in Arizona opposite Zack Godley.

Prediction:
There’s zero value in taking the Dodgers on the money line and little value in laying the -1.5 on the runline. That said, the under looks like a good play. The Dodgers might smack around Richards for an inning or two but it’s unlikely that the weak-hitting Marlins will figure out Kershaw.
