Marlins on surprising win streak
Miami picked up a surprising sweep at home over the Mets to snap a long losing streak and back-to-back games where they had been shutout. The Marlins are 13-31 on the season, 4-14 on the road and 25-18 with the under. Caleb Smith is getting the start for Miami. He is 3-1 on the season with a 2.25 ERA.
The Marlins rank last in the league in hitting, averaging just 2.68 runs per game while hitting .219 as a team. On the mound, Miami has a 4.55 team ERA with a 1.36 team WHIP. Jorge Alfaro is leading the team with just 13 RBI and six home runs. Neil Walker has seven doubles with three home runs and six RBI.
Tigers on a slide
Detroit is riding a six-game losing streak coming into tonight’s game. The Tigers have been outscored 12-52 over the six games. Detroit is now 18-26 on the season, 9-14 at home and 25-18 with the under. The Tigers have Spencer Turnbull on the mound tonight. He is 2-3 on the season with a 2.40 ERA.
The Tigers are second-to-last in the league in hitting, averaging just 3.31 runs per game while hitting just .219 as a squad. On the mound, Detroit has a 5.05 team ERA and a 1.43 team WHIP. Nicholas Castellanos is leading the team with 12 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 13 RBI. Miguel Cabrera has driven in 16 runs with eight doubles.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are 1-4 in their last five interleague games and 11-40 in their last 51 road games.
Detroit
The Tigers are just 1-7 in their last eight interleague games and 6-15 in their last 21 games against a left-handed starter.
Prediction:
Smith has been steady for a bad Miami team. He has allowed two runs or less in seven of his eight starts and 1 run or less in four of the eight starts. Turnbull is coming off a 6-run outing against Oakland, but only one of those runs was earned. The Tigers have been getting beat up lately and I think their hitters will struggle tonight against Smith. Detroit’s bullpen has been a disaster as of late and I think Miami will find a way to improve on their poor hitting numbers tonight.
MLB Prediction: Miami Marlins +100
