Marlins’ Urena throws complete game in win over Nationals
Jose Urena pitched a complete game in a 12-1 victory over the Nationals on Sunday. Urena allowed only two hits, and he walked two while striking out four. In his last start, Urena didn’t get anyone out as he was ejected for plunking Ronald Acuna to start the game. In this one, Urena didn’t need any bullpen help, as he kept the Nationals off balance all game. It’s the fourth win of the season for the right-hander against 12 losses, and his ERA drops to 4.50 over 138 innings. Urena’s next listed start is Saturday against the Braves, but for obvious reasons, his next outing likely will come later against a different club.
Red Sox’ Johnson gives up three runs in win over Rays
Brian Johnson allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings in a rather workmanlike outing and earned a win against the Rays on Friday. It was looking ugly in the early going as he gave up three runs in the first inning. The big blow was a two-run double by Joey Wendle. He was able to settle down from there and ended up one out short of a quality start. The high-scoring Red Sox offense came through for him and he was rewarded with a win for his efforts. He struck out two, walked two and allowed five hits in the ballgame. His record improves to 4-3 with a 4.00 ERA in nine starts and 22 relief appearances.
