Dodgers shut down in series finale
Clayton Kershaw returned to the mound from injury and was solid Thursday night against Philadelphia, allowing only one earned run in five innings before departing after 62 pitches. One concern was his velocity as he struggled to hit 90 MPH. He also received little run support as the Dodgers tied it up at 1-1 in the fifth, but eventually Josh Fields gave up the go-ahead run in the seventh as LA lost 2-1. Yasiel Puig finished 1-for-3 with a double and scored the lone run. Enrique Hernandez drove him in on a single.
Rockies drop finale to Giants
Colorado had an off day on Thursday after falling 7-4 at home to the Giants the previous day. Nolan Arenado hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the defeat that staked Colorado to a 3-0 advantage, but the hosts were outplayed from that point on. Charlie Blackmon finished 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Ian Desmond and Daniel Castro contributed two hits apiece. Harrison Musgrove suffered the loss in relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout and no walks over 1 2/3 innings.
Alex Wood (1-4, 3.75 ERA will start today for the Dodgers, while the Rockies counter with Tyler Anderson (3-1, 4.72).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 2-6 in their last eight Friday games. Los Angeles is 10-4 in its last 14 games overall.
Colorado
The Rockies are 6-2 in their last eight games following a loss. The under is 21-8-3 in the last 32 Colorado games overall.
Prediction:
Los Angeles has mostly been playing good baseball of late, although it only managed a split of the four-game series against Philly as it ran into a tough test. With the motivation of cutting the NL West deficit to as little as one game by the end of Sunday, the Dodgers should be highly motivated the next three days. I think they waltz in and take the opener as favorites, taking advantage of the thin air for a nice night offensively.
