Angels’ Barria holds Orioles to two runs in debut
Jaime Barria allowed two runs on four hits over six innings in Thursday’s win over the Orioles. Barria was making just his third career major league start and his first of the 2018 season in this one. His offense gave him quite the cushion, mauling O’s starter Chris Tillman for five runs in the first inning. That lead would increase as the night wore on, and the 21-year-old right-hander made sure to capitalize.
The Orioles would not even touch him up for a hit until there was one out in the sixth inning. They would ultimately score both runs on his line in that frame. Barria finished his evening’s work having struck out two and walked two. With Nick Tropeano (shoulder) TBA for his next start, it’s possible that Barria could have an opportunity to impress in the short term.
Rockies’ Anderson strikes out nine in win over Cubs
Tyler Anderson surrendered just three hits and two runs over seven stellar innings Wednesday in the Rockies’ win over the Cubs. Anderson registered a season-high nine strikeouts and only allowed one walk while out-pitching Cubs All-Star Yu Darvish. The left-hander gave up solo home runs to Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant but was otherwise lights out. Anderson exited his last start with an illness but didn’t look any worse for the wear Wednesday at Wrigley. He’ll take a 2-0 record into his next outing Wednesday against the Angels.
