Tigers trending up
With Saturday’s 12-4 win over Kansas City, the Tigers have now won five of their last six games to get to 9-10 overall. Detroit is now 6-6 at home as it seeks to get to the .500 mark for the season. The Tigers are averaging 4.28 runs per game this season while allowing 4.33 per contest.
Francisco Liriano gets the start for Detroit today. He is 2-1 through his first three starts with a 2.55 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. The Tigers should be encouraged by Liriano’s start, as he has 14 strikeouts with eight walks with 17.2 innings after a rough 2017 with Toronto and Houston.
Royals unable to sustain winning
After snapping a long losing streak on Friday, the Royals fell back to their old tricks with a lopsided loss on Saturday. They have seen three of their last five losses be by at least 8 runs. KC is now 4-15 overall and 3-8 on the road. They are averaging just 3.11 runs per game at the plate while allowing 5.28 per contest on the mound.
Eric Skoglund is getting the start for KC this afternoon and he has been a dumpster fire in 2018. Through two starts he has pitched 9.2 innings and allowed 10 earned runs with 14 hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. His ERA is currently 9.31 while his WHIP is 1.76.
MLB Betting Trends
Kansas City
The Royals have lost Skoglund’s last six starts overall. They are also winless in their last four Sunday games and 1-4 in their last five against a left-handed starter.
Detroit
The Tigers have won five of their last six against a team with a win percentage below .400. However, they have lost 14 of their last 18 Game 4’s in a series.
Prediction:
The Tigers have some momentum going right now. They had Friday’s game in hand as well if not for an error that allowed KC to steal the win. Liriano has looked good so far and he gets to face a really poor offense today. I like him to have another strong outing while the Tigers are able to hammer Skoglund.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers -155
