Astros’ McCullers fires seven shutout innings in win over Rays

Lance McCullers was dominant in Thursday’s victory over the Rays, striking out seven over seven shutout innings. The right-hander scattered just three hits and a pair of walks over his brilliant outing. With the win, McCullers improves to 9-3 on the season. He owns a terrific 3.55 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 106/38 K/BB ratio across 101 1/3 innings on the year. As good as he has been though, he has only been the fourth best starter in an absolutely loaded Astros’ rotation. He’ll look to carry over this fine effort when he does battle against the Rangers in Texas on Wednesday.

Rangers’ Minor flirts with perfect game, beats Padres

Mike Minor allowed just one base hit and no runs through seven innings and was credited with a win over the Padres on Wednesday. He took a perfect game into the seventh inning until it was broken up by an Eric Hosmer single with one out in the frame. He benefited from center fielder Delino DeShields climbing the wall to rob Hunter Renfroe of a two-run homer later in the inning. Minor struck out five and allowed just the one baserunner in his best start of the season. He is having an up-and-down campaign as a whole but he has been riding high of late. He improves to 6-4 with a 4.64 ERA in 16 starts.

MLB Betting Trends

Houston

The Astros are a perfect 6-0 in McCullers Jr.’s last six starts overall.

Texas

The Rangers have dropped all four of Minor’s last four starts versus the American League West.

Prediction:

The under is 18-8 in McCullers Jr.’s last 26 starts versus the rest of the division and is 7-3 in his last 10 outings when he pitches the second game of a series. On the other side, the under is also 4-0-1 in Minor’s last five starts overall and is 6-1-2 in Quinn Wolcott’s last nine games behind home plate.
