Astros take first two games
Houston has won the first two games of the series, 3-2 and 5-1. Houston is now 39-20 on the season, 17-12 on the road and 34-22 with the under. The Astros have Gerrit Cole taking the mound today. He is 5-5 on the season and has a 4.02 ERA.
The Astros got another strong start out of Justin Verlander on Saturday. He pitched eight innings and allowed one run on just four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Verlander is 9-2 on the season with the win. At the plate, Josh Reddick and Robinson Chirinos each had two hits and drove in two runs in the victory, while Michael Brantley also had two hits.
Athletics lose fourth straight
Oakland has lost four straight games following Saturday’s 5-1 loss to Houston. The Athletics are 29-29 on the season, 18-14 at home and 30-28 with the under. Oakland has Chris Bassitt on the mound today. He is 3-1 on the season with a 3.27 ERA.
The Athletics had Brett Anderson pitching on Saturday. He wasn’t too bad, allowing three runs over 5.1 innings. He took the loss and fell to 6-4 on the season. Joakim Soria gave up another two runs in the ninth to hand the Astros the win. Stephen Piscotty had a solo home run to lead the Athletics at the plate.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros have won five straight road games against a right-handed starter and 12 of their last 15 games against a right-handed starter.
Oakland
The Athletics are 1-6 in their last seven Sunday games and 1-5 in their last six games following a loss.
Prediction:
Cole has had a few rough outings over the last few months, but Houston has still won five of his last six starts. He strikes out a lot of batters and walks few. I think he can fan a lot of Oakland hitters today. Bassitt has a lower ERA than Cole, but he has allowed at least three runs in four of his last five starts. I just can’t trust him against this Houston lineup and the Astros have the better bullpen to turn to later in the game.
MLB Prediction: Houston Astros -140
