Gavin Lux (back) is taking at-bats at the Dodgers’ spring training complex on Thursday. Lux did not travel with the Dodgers to San Francisco, but he is expected to head there on Friday and should be able to return to action at some point during the three-game weekend series at Oracle Park. He has been sidelined — though not on the IL — since September 1 due to lingering back discomfort.

Brandon Belt intends to keep playing in 2023, though he’s not going to accept a minor league contract. “Yeah, I’m not doing that,” Belt told The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly. “I don’t know what’s going to happen but I wouldn’t sign something like that.” Belt will be 35 and coming off season-ending knee surgery next year, but he says the knee already feels much better, and while he did struggle to a .676 OPS in 78 games this year, he was one of the league’s best hitters in 2020 and 2021 (.988 OPS in 148 games between the two seasons). He’s definitely going to be in line for a pay cut from the $18.4 million he’s making this year, but teams will be interested.
