Tigers end skid
Detroit ended their four-game losing streak with a 5-4 win at Pittsburgh on Monday night. The Tigers are 26-43 overall, 15-19 on the road and 35-29 with the under. Jordan Zimmerman takes the mound for Detroit tonight. He is 0-4 on the season with a 5.93 ERA.
Detroit blew a 4-2 lead in Tuesday’s game, but still managed to get the win thanks to a Brandon Dixon RBI ground out in the eighth. Shane Greene then came on to make his 21st save of the season. Daniel Norris pitched six solid innings in the start, allowing two runs. Buck Farmer got the win in relief. Miguel Cabrera had two hits and a RBI for the Tigers at the plate while Nicholas Castellanos had a double with a RBI and two runs.
Pirates back to losing
The Pirates were unable to put away a struggling Detroit team at home on Monday night. Pittsburgh is 32-40 on the season, 13-19 at home and 44-27 with the over. Trevor Williams gets the start today. He is 2-1 on the season with a 3.33 ERA.
Mitch Keller pitched five innings in the start, allowing four runs. Kyle Crick took the loss, as he allowed the single run in the eighth inning. He is now 2-3 on the season. Josh Bell continued his strong season, hitting his 22nd home run of the season while driving in his 66th run of the season. Kevin Newman added two hits and a RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 17-36 in their last 53 interleague games and 8-20 in their last 28 interleague road games.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates have won Williams’ last seven interleague starts and 6-0 in his last six starts against AL Central opponents.
Prediction:
Zimmerman is making his first start since April 25 due to an injury. He had given up five runs in four straight starts prior to that. Williams has missed the last month with an injury, but he was pitching well prior to that, allowing just two runs over his last 10.2 innings. The Tigers aren’t a consistent hitting team and they don’t have a terribly reliable bullpen to help Zimmerman if he fans out early. I expect Pittsburgh to be able to bounce back with ease tonight.
MLB Prediction: Pittsburgh Pirates -115
