Rockies’ Marquez puts together quality start in loss to Marlins
German Marquez allowed three runs — two earned — over six innings in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday. Marquez was able to get back on track a bit after a poor showing his last time out, but the result was still a loss that dropped him to 1-3 on the year. He hasn’t really been deserving of much better, as the right-hander has a 5.46 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through six starts.
Mets’ Wheeler strikes out nine in win over Padres
Zack Wheeler struck out nine, allowing two runs over five innings in a win over the Padres on Sunday. Wheeler was better than he needed to be on a day when his offense provided him 14 runs of support. The win improved him to 2-1 on the year, and Wheeler has a 4.09 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 21/8 K/BB ratio across five starts. The right-hander will try to make it two wins in a row Saturday when the Rockies come to town.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 9-4 in their last 13 games against the Mets but are 4-13 in their last 17 trips to Citi Field.
New York
The Mets are 1-4 in Wheeler’s last five games when he pitches the opener of a new series but are 4-1 in his last five starts overall.
Prediction:
The Mets have dropped three straight and seven of 10, so I’m going to fade them as a favorite tonight. The Mets are 4-9 in Wheeler’s last 13 home starts, are 2-7 in his last nine outings versus the National West West, and are 2-7 in his last nine outings when facing an opponent with a winning record. On the other side, the Rockies are 4-1 in Marquez’s last five road starts versus a team with a winning record and are 5-1 in their last six road games when facing a right-handed starter.
The Pick: Colorado Rockies +105
