Senzel homers twice in win
Rookie Nick Senzel led Cincinnati to a 12-4 victory at home Monday afternoon over San Francisco to improve to 15-20 on the season and 9-8 at home. The Reds scored five runs in the first inning and five in the sixth en route to the win. Senzel went 2-for-6 from the leadoff position with a pair of solo home runs. Eugenio Suarez finished 2-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Jose Iglesias was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, two runs and four RBIs. Anthony DeSclafani earned the win as he gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Tyler Mahle will start today’s game as he enters with an 0-4 record, 4.09 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 30 strikeouts over 30 innings.
Athletics’ struggles continue
Oakland lost for the eighth time in nine games Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 loss in 13 innings at Pittsburgh. The Athletics led 3-1 in the 13th inning, but reliever Fernando Rodney surrendered four earned runs on one-third of an inning on three hits and a walk to lead to the loss. Khris Davis left the contest in the first inning with a hip contusion, but is probable to play today. First baseman Matt Olson is expected to be activated from the injured list for tonight’s game. In the loss to the Pirates, Kendrys Morales went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jurickson Profar finished 2-for-5, while Stephen Piscotty was 1-for-6 with a double and an RBI. Mike Fiers starts today for Oakland as he comes in with a 2-3 record, 6.81 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 28 strikeouts over 37 innings.
Baltimore has shown itself to be the better team at the plate in this series and I think the Orioles have the edge on the mound today as well. Hellickson seems to be settling in nicely with Baltimore and can produce another good start against a lackluster Oakland offense. The Baltimore hitters should be able to get to Graveman, who has looked really rough in recent starts.
