Dodgers hold on in pitcher’s duel
Los Angeles prevailed 2-1 Monday night at Dodger Stadium as a stellar performance by Kenta Maeda guided the way. Maeda threw seven shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out nine and walking one. Kenley Jansen allowed a run in the ninth, but held on for his 20th save. Enrique Hernandez and Chris Taylor both hit a solo home run to pace the offense. Justin Turner ended the game 2-for-4.
Underwood Jr. goes four innings in debut
Cubs rookie Duane Underwood Jr. labored through a 41-pitch first inning and eventually gave up one earned run in four innings during his MLB debut last night, giving up two hits while striking out three and walking three. Ben Zobrist was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored the lone Chicago run. Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4, while Ian Happ was 2-for-3.
Jon Lester (9-2, 2.10 ERA) will start for Chicago tonight, while LA turns to Ross Stripling (6-2, 1.99).
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 10-2 in Lester’s last 12 Tuesday starts. Chicago is 47-20 in Lester’s last 67 starts on grass.
Los Angeles
The under is 9-2 in the Dodgers last 11 games overall. Los Angeles is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings.
Prediction:
Chicago is struggling badly right now but has the talent to pull out of it on any given night. I’m not going to bet my money on that being tonight, but with the Cubs and Dodgers both sending arguuably theirr most consistent pitcher to the mound tonight, the under is calling my name. The bats were almost non-existent last night and I expect a similar result tonight in this pitcher’s park.
MLB DAILY PREDICTION: CUBS/DODGERS UNDER 7.5
