Cubs trending upward?
The Chicago Cubs haven’t had a great start to the 2018 season, but they are starting to find a little momentum heading into this series. They have won three of their last four, including two of three at Colorado. Chicago is 10-9 overall and 7-5 on the road. The Cubs are averaging 5.79 runs per game this season while allowing 4.53 per contest.
Tyler Chatwood gets the start for the Cubs today. He has lost all three starts this year as he has a 4.60 ERA with a 1.79 WHIP. Over 15.2 innings of work, he has 14 walks and 18 strikeouts.
Cleveland pitching rolling along
The Indians are coming off three straight wins over the Orioles in Baltimore. Over their last 10 games, they have held opponents to 3 runs or less in nine of them and 1 or less in five of them. The Tribe are now 12-8 overall and 6-2 at home. The Tribe are putting up 3.50 runs per game this season while allowing just 2.75 per contest
Josh Tomlin gets the start today. Of the good pitching Cleveland has had, Tomlin hasn’t been part of it for the most part. He has a 8.00 ERA over nine innings of work this season. He has a 2.11 WHIP with four walks and four strikeouts.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
Chicago has won seven of its last eight interleague games and four of its last 5 road games. The Cubs have also won 30 of their last 37 road games against a right-handed starter.
Cleveland
The Indians have gone 6-17 in their last 23 interleague games, but are 9-3 in Tomlin’s last 12 starts and 6-1 in his last seven home starts.
Prediction:
Cleveland’s pitching has been strong, but Tomlin hasn’t really gotten on track thus far. With Chicago on a bit of an upswing, I think the Cubs can upset the Indians today. Cleveland isn’t putting up runs in great numbers this year, relying a little too much on pitching to win. I don’t think they get that great pitching tonight.
The Pick: Chicago Cubs -105
