Cubs lose another
Chicago is coming off a 6-3 loss at Cincinnati on Friday and the Cubs have lost three of their last four and five of their last eight. Chicago is 44-38 on the season, 15-22 on the road and 41-39 with the over. The Cubs have Jose Quintana on the mound today. He is 4-7 on the season with a 4.50 ERA.
The Cubs fell behind 6-0 on Friday and then tacked on three runs in the seventh inning, but that was too late. Jason Heyward had a two-run home run to lead the Cubs in the loss while Albert Almora Jr. drove in the other run. On the mound, Cole Hamels had to leave after just one inning, giving up one run. Then Mike Montgomery gave up five runs over 2.1 innings in relief.
Reds snap losing streak
The Cincinnati Reds ended a four-game losing streak on Friday with the win over the Cubs. Cincinnati is 37-42 on the season, 20-17 at home and 50-27 with the under. The Reds have Luis Castillo on the mound today. He is 7-2 on the season with a 2.56 ERA.
Cincinnati had a good outing from Sonny Gray on Friday, as he allowed just two runs over 6.1 innings with six strikeouts. Gray moves to 4-5 on the season with the win. Michael Lorenzen got his fifth save of the year by recording the final five outs. At the plate, Joey Votto had four hits with two runs and a RBI. Phillip Ervin also had two hits with two runs and a RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are just 2-9 in their last 11 road games and 0-6 in Quintana’s last six starts.
Cincinnati
The Reds have won five straight home games and seven of their last nine against winning teams.
Prediction:
Quintana is in a funk like the Cubs. He is coming off an 8-run outing against the Mets and the Cubs have lost eight of his last nine starts. He, himself, doesn’t have a win since May 5. Castillo has been very competitive on the mound for the Reds and I think he can take advantage of this struggling Cubs team at home. The Cubs just don’t look like a good team right now and they have the disadvantage on the mound.
MLB Prediction: Cincinnati Reds -120
