Paul Goldschmidt launched a two-run home run Wednesday as the Cardinals took Game 1 of their Wild Card Series against the Padres. Tommy Edman reached with one out on an infield single and Goldschmidt then swung at the first pitch he saw from Chris Paddack, hitting a moonshot that just cleared the left-field wall. The first baseman was retired in each of his other four plate appearances but did add a few nice defensive plays to go along with his dinger

Fernando Tatis Jr. reached base twice and scored two runs in Wednesday’s loss to the Cardinals. Tatis walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored a run and he added another run in the third after a leadoff single. Unfortunately, he was unable to come up with a key hit later in the game, striking one while representing the go-ahead run in the sixth and grounding out in the eighth while again representing the go-ahead tally. In both instances his outs ended the inning.
Cardinals vs. Padres Game 2 Betting Prediction
Let’s see this St. Louis club slug in back-to-back games – because I don’t think they can do it. The Padres are 9-3 in their last 12 games coming off a loss, are 21-7 in their last 28 games when facing a right-handed starter and have won six of their last seven games after surrendering five runs or more in their previous contest. Despite winning last night as a postseason dog, the Cardinals are still just 2-9 in their last 11 playoff games as an underdog, are 1-4 in their last five postseason games overall and have dropped four of their last five games coming off a win. Padres even the series tonight.
