Cardinals fire scouting director
ST. LOUIS, MO (The Spread) – The Cardinals have fired scouting director Chris Correa after an “imposed leave of absence,” according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
The Cardinals declined to comment on the situation but a source tells the Dispatch that the investigation into the hacking of the Astros’ network said that Correa admitted to accessing the database. According to the report, Correa claims he wanted to verify that Houston (specifically general manager Jeff Luhnow) had stolen proprietary data.
Correa originally joined the Cardinals in 2009 and was promoted to director of amateur scouting last winter. He recently oversaw his first MLB draft so the assumption that a lower-level employee had hacked the Astros was off-mark. Correa is certainly higher up the food chain than a small-time lackey who was in possession of Luhnow’s passwords.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Cardinals are 7/1 favorites to win the 2015 World Series and 7/2 favorites to win the NL pennant this year. They’ve lost three straight games but will look to get back on track tonight when they host the Padres at 8:15PM ET. With Michael Wacha on the mound, the Cards are -167 money line favorites.
