Thursday night saw the Yankees win the opener of the four-game series by a count of 6-2. CC Sabathia improved to 4-0 on the year against Boston by allowing one earned run over six innings. Greg Bird was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Gary Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Brett Gardner and Chase Headley each finished 2-for-4 with a run, while Aaron Hicks and Starlin Castro both had two hits as well. Eduardo Rodriguez allowed five earned runs over five innings to take the loss. Andrew Benintendi paced the Red Sox as he was 1-for-2 with an RBI and three walks.
