Red Sox’ Rodriguez picks up win vs. Orioles in Baltimore
Eduardo Rodriguez gave up eight hits and walked two but managed to limit the Orioles to two runs over 5 2/3 frames in the Red Sox’ 6-4 win. Joey Rickard led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run off Rodriguez and the lefty had to pitch out of a two-on, nobody out jam in the second. He mostly settled in after that, getting pulled after yielding a two-out single in the sixth because he was at 109 pitches. Rodriguez has won each of his last five starts, posting a 2.15 ERA over that time. He’ll take on the Mariners in Seattle on Sunday.
Mariners’ Leake shuts down Angels in last start
Mike Leake allowed just one earned run, four hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six innings in a win against the Angels on Tuesday. Leake threw 64 of his 101 pitches for strikes in the quality start, lowering his ERA for the fifth consecutive outing. His ERA has dropped from 6.00 to 4.26 just since May 15, as he has turned in five consecutive quality starts with a 3-0 record and 1.77 ERA since May 15. Leake is on pace for 17 victories, three more than his career best set back in 2013 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 15-3 in Rodriguez’s last 18 starts and are 6-0 in his last six outings on the road.
Seattle
The Mariners are 7-0 in Leake’s last seven starts and are 4-0 in his last four outings at home.
Prediction:
I would normally back the Red Sox and fade Leake but the right-hander has been hot of late so let’s look at the total. The under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and has cashed in 11 of the last 14 meetings in Seattle. The under is also 17-7-2 in Rodriguez’s last 26 road starts and is 33-16-2 in his last 51 outings overall. Neither team has hit well in this series save for Friday night so I’m taking the under in what should be a decent pitcher’s duel this afternoon.
The Pick: Red Sox/Mariners under 8
