Red Sox extend streak to four games
Boston finished off a sweep at Baltimore Sunday with a 4-1 victory as Chris Sale was outstanding in his return from the disabled list. Sale gave up one hit and struck out 12 in five innings of work, needing only 68 pitches. Craig Kimbrel earned his 35th save as he worked around a hit and a walk while striking out three batters in the ninth inning. Mookie Betts helped pace the offense as he went 1-for-4 with double, a walk and an RBI. Steve Pearce finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Jackie Bradley Jr. ended the contest 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Phillies drop four of six on West Coast trip
Philadelphia completed its West Coast trip Sunday with a 9-3 loss at San Diego, losing two of three in that series. Cesar Hernandez finished 1-for-2 with a pair of hits to help spark the offense from the leadoff spot. Nick Williams went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Carlos Santana finished 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Maikel Franco ended the contest 2-for-4. Jake Arrieta suffered the loss as he allowed five earned runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out four and walking two.
Boston will go with Rick Porcello (14-5, 4.17 ERA) on the mound today, while the Phillies turn to Nick Pivetta (7-9, 4.51).
MLB Betting Trendson
Boston
The Red Sox are 41-12 in their last 53 interleague games. Boston is 39-12 in its last 51 games on grass.
Philadelphia
The under is 11-2-1 in the last 14 Phillies games overall. Philadelphia is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings.
Prediction:
It’s difficult to bet against the Red Sox these days. Porcello has been up and down, but even when he isn’t sharp he often benefits from plenty of run support. The stacked Red Sox lineup should get to Pivetta. Look for Porcello to bounce back from a poor outing his last start to lead Boston to a win.
