Boston Red Sox Fantasy Spin
Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox have yet to engage with J.D. Martinez’s camp regarding a contract extension. The club has locked Chris Sale and Xander Bogaerts up with long-term deals, but it doesn’t appear Martinez is next on the docket, at least not yet. Martinez has four years and $86.25 million remaining on his contract, but he has opt-out clauses after the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons and is surely to exercise it after this year as long as he’s healthy.
Oakland A’s Fantasy Spin
Khris Davis crushed his fifth homer of the season in a 7-0 rout of the Red Sox on Monday. Davis blasted a David Price offering out to center in the second inning to give Oakland a 1-0 lead. Unsurprisingly, the power has been there for Davis to begin the season, as his slugging percentage sits at .786 through the first six games of the season. That’s not sustainable, obviously, but there’s no reason to think he won’t be among the league leaders in homers — again — in 2019. You just have to factor in the guaranteed .247 average to go along with those blasts.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox have won five of Sale’s last six road starts and are 12-3 in his last 15 outings overall, although they did suffer defeat in their season-opener in Seattle with their ace on the hill.
Oakland
The A’s are 9-2 in Fiers’ last 11 starts and are 7-1 in his last eight home outings.
Prediction:
Sale will round into form at some point but he threw a lot of pitches and totaled a lot of innings a year ago after helping Boston win the World Series. His offseason was truncated as well so if we are going to fade Sale, might as well do it early. The Red Sox are just 1-5 in their last six games versus the A’s and are 16-37 in their last 53 games in Oakland. With the success the A’s have had with Fiers on the hill, I’m rolling the dice on the home dog tonight.
The Pick: Oakland A’s +155
