Red Sox’ Rodriguez had his ups and downs vs. Rangers
Eduardo Rodriguez had some good and some bad Saturday, striking out 10 but allowing five runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Rangers. Rodriguez gave up just four hits and walked two, but three of the hits — two mammoth shots by Joey Gallo, and a wall-scraper by Delino DeShields Jr. — left the yard, inflating his run total. Still, it was a generally encouraging turn after he lasted just four innings his last time out. The southpaw owns a 5.29 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 39/13 K/BB ratio over 32 1/3 innings this year, and he’ll look to improve on those numbers tonight.
Yankees’ Sabathia fires six scoreless innings vs. Indians
CC Sabathia fired six scoreless frames in a no-decision against the Indians on Friday. The bullpen blew the lead late, but Sabathia was very sharp, allowing just three hits while walking none and striking out seven. The veteran southpaw threw 61 out of 92 pitches for strikes. He’s now sporting a sterling 1.39 ERA and 23/5 K/BB ratio in 32 1/3 innings across his first six starts. Sabathia might not be the pitcher he once was, but he has found his groove as a steady cog in New York’s rotation.
