American League Wild Card Round, Game 1
Toronto Blue Jays DFS Spin
Matt Shoemaker will start Game 1 against the Rays in the Wild Card round on Tuesday. Staff ace Hyun-Jin Ryu will start Game 2 on Wednesday while Taijuan Walker would start a potential Game 3. Shoemaker was scratched from his final scheduled start on Saturday with the Wild Card round in mind. It’s a surprising call given that Ryu would be on regular rest Tuesday. He apparently came out of his last start with some soreness, but Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said Monday that their decision didn’t have anything to do with that. Shoemaker missed a month with a lat strain before allowing one run over three innings in his return on September 21. Game 1 could very much turn into a bullpen affair for the Jays.
Tampa Bay Rays DFS Spin
Mike Brousseau tripled and drove in a run in a win over the Phillies on Sunday. Brosseau gave the Rays a 4-0 lead with an RBI triple in the sixth. The second-year player has been a real find for the Rays and fantasy players in 2020, and the 2020 campaign ends with a .302 average, .936 OPS and five homers in his 36 games. If he gets a chance to play regularly he could be a fantasy option with his versatility, but it may take changing organizations to make him more than a daily play.
Blue Jays vs. Rays Betting Prediction
The Blue Jays have dropped 39 of their last 122 games at Tropicana Field and are just 10-21 in their last 31 meetings with the Rays. They’re also 1-4 in their last five playoff games, are 1-5 in their last six road games and have dropped five of their last seven road postseason matchups. On the other side, the Rays have won seven of their last eight games following an off day and are 12-3 in their last 15 games after allowing two runs or less in their previous contest.
