Orioles’ Cobb logs quality start in loss to Rangers
Alex Cobb logged a quality start in a losing effort against the Rangers on Friday, allowing two runs on six hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work. The right-hander struck out three on the night and didn’t walk a batter. He was engaged in a 1-1 pitcher’s duel with Cole Hamels until the seventh inning, where Cobb allowed a one-out single then gave way to Tanner Scott. Scott proceeded to walk Joey Gallo and serve up a three-run homer to Ryan Rua, hanging an extra earned run and the loss on Cobb. He finishes an abysmal first half 2-12 with a 6.41 ERA an 1.58 WHIP in 17 starts with the O’s. It’s hard to recommend him in any fantasy formats heading into the second half.
Blue Jays’ Stroman struggles in Boston
Marcus Stroman was charged with four runs – three earned – over just five innings of work in Sunday’s loss to the Red Sox. Stroman served up a solo home run to Xander Bogaerts in the first inning and gave up five hits overall along with a walk. The right-hander needed 95 pitches to cover his five frames. Stroman has been hit-or-miss since his return from the disabled list, mixing in three good outings with a couple clunkers. He’ll conclude the first half with a disappointing 5.86 ERA over 12 starts for the Blue Jays.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles have now lost 38 of their last 51 games following their 8-7 defeat in Toronto on Friday night.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have won 13 of their last 19 home games following last night’s home win.
Prediction:
The Orioles are now 0-5 in their last five games against the Blue Jays and 31-66 in their last 97 meetings with the Jays in Toronto. They’re also just 3-14 in Cobb’s last 17 starts, are 3-8 in his last 11 road starts and are 1-6 in his last seven outings when he’s coming off a Quality Start in his last appearance. The Orioles aren’t going to lose every game in the second half but they will lose a ton. Trying to pinpoint which games they’re going to show up in without Machado will be a maddening exercise.
The Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5
