Ball State Cardinals Game Notes

The Star Press’ Robby General believes Ball State redshirt junior QB John Paddock has won the starting quarterback job. General notes that Paddock “has got some wheels and a strong arm” and that the “competition for backup QB appears to be between Colin Blazek and Kiael Kelly.” Paddock has seen limited action during his time at Ball State, completing 24-of-34 career passes for 180 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Ball State opens its season on September 1st at Tennessee.

Tennessee Volunteers Game Notes

Tennessee HC Josh Heupel said his team is “deeper” heading into 2023 after the addition of several players this offseason. The Vols added players via the 2022 recruiting class and the transfer portal this offseason, providing the team plenty of depth as they look to build on their 7-6 season. Heupel added that in addition to depth, the team “added athleticism, speed [and] the ability to move.” He also had praise for several players, including DB Tre Flowers and WR Cedric Tillman. Heupel and the Vols kick off their 2022 season on September 3rd against Ball State.
