Acuna Jr., Swanson homer in loss
Atlanta lost by a count of 7-4 Wednesday night at Pittsburgh to fall to 33-28 overall and 17-13 on the road. Dansby Swanson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run plus a double in the defeat. Ronald Acuna Jr. finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Nick Markakis was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Kevin Gausman suffered the loss as he was shelled for seven earned runs on 12 hits over five innings, striking out three and walking none. Mike Foltynewicz will start tonight for the Braves as he enters with a 1-4 record, 6.10 ERA and 1.28 WITH with 32 strikeouts over 38 1/3 innings.
Musgrove guides Pirates win
Joe Musgrove threw eight-plus innings Wednesday night in a 7-4 home victory over Atlanta. Musgrove gave up three earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk over eight innings, giving up two solo home runs to start the ninth before getting pulled. Colin Moran helped pace the offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Starling Marte finished 3-for-3 with a double plus an RBI. Gregory Polanco was 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, a run and an RBI. Elias Diaz finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Chris Archer draws the start today for the Pirates as he enters with a 2-5 record, 5.66 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 47 strikeouts over 47 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 5-1 in their last six road games. Atlanta is 15-7 in its last 22 games overall.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 8-20 in their last 28 Thursday games. Pittsburgh is 1-6 in its last seven games started by Archer.
Prediction:
Musgrove stymied the Braves for much of the game Wednesday, but should have an easier time with Archer as he’s been unable to find his groove this season since a strong start. Foltynewicz has also worked his way back slowly from injury, yet has shown signs of improvement lately and also dealt with some bad luck. I like the way Foltynewicz is trending more than Archer, plus overall the Braves are the stronger team. Go with the favorites on the road today.
