D-backs aim to harm Red Sox’s playoff hopes
The Diamondbacks’ Patrick Corbin had high expectations entering 2016. Like most of his brethren, though, the southpaw’s known nothing but sorrow this season.
This weekend provides the 27-year-old and his gang a prime opportunity to play spoiler. Arizona kicks off a three-game set against Boston at 7:10 p.m. ET, with online sports book BetDSI giving John Farrell’s team odds of -245 to triumph. As for the D-backs, they enter Fenway Park as +215 underdogs.
In a rotation toplined by Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller, Corbin figured slide comfortably into the No. 3 slot. It’s been an uphill battle from the beginning, however, as April saw the 2013 All-Star go 1-3 with a 4.88 ERA. Corbin’s currently mired in an eight-start winless stretch.
For David Price, life isn’t quite as bad. Then again, the Red Sox expected more than a 9-8 record and sketchy peripheral stats when they inked him to a $217 deal in December. The lefty hopes to prevent the club from slipping further behind in the American League Central race. Thanks to back-to-back losses at the hands of the Yankees, Boston now trails first-place Toronto by three games.

Thankfully for Beantown, Corbin’s even more of a wreck away from Chase Field. Saddled with a career WHIP of 1.36 on the road, the New York native simply can’t get out of his own way. Bank on the Red Sox will punish him accordingly.
