Diamondbacks Win Total Prediction
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the most improved teams in Major League Baseball but will that lead to a significant uptick in wins?
Atlantis Casino in Reno recently released win totals for all 30 MLB teams and the over/under for the Diamondbacks was set at 84.5. Last year the team won 79 games and the year before that they won 64 games. You’d have to go back to 2011 for the last time Arizona won over 84.5 games when it totaled 94 victories and won the National League West.
The Diamondbacks made a couple of significant moves this winter to upgrade their roster, none bigger than the free agent signing of Zack Greinke. They also traded for starter Shelby Miller and shortstop Jean Segura, plus signed reliever Tyler Clippard to help bolster the bullpen.
Will the Diamondbacks go over or under 84.5 wins?
Pundits have talked up Arizona’s offseason so there’s a chance that the D-Backs have become overvalued. But they won 79 games last season and added a premium ace in Greinke to go along with Miller and Patrick Corbin. That’s one hell of a 1-2-3 combination in the starting rotation.
A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt also form one of the best 1-2 punches in the National League and his defensive liabilities notwithstanding, Yasmany Tomas still has plenty of untapped potential.
Granted, the roster is top heavy and there are plenty of question marks once you get past Greinke, Goldschmidt, Pollock, Miller and Corbin. But assuming this team is on the rise, it’s hard to believe the additions they made this offseason won’t equate to another five wins this year.
