On the mound for Colorado will be Chad Bettis (0-2, 4.91 ERA), while Los Angeles counters with Alex Wood (14-2, 2.57). Bettis has a 1.26 WHIP with 18 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks over 5 1/3 innings in a 4-3 home win over the Giants his last start. Wood has a 1.04 ERA with 134 strikeouts in 129 1/3 innings. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks over six innings in a 6-4 loss at San Diego his last start.
The Rockies enter with a 76-65 record and are 35-34 on the road, while the Dodgers are 92-49 and 52-21 at home. Los Angeles has won six of the last 10 meetings, while the over-under is 5-5 with the over hitting in the last three games.
On Friday night, the Rockies rallied with a four-run fifth inning for a 5-4 victory to send the Dodgers to yet another defeat. Carlos Gonzalez hit a solo home run to lead the way, while Raimel Tapia had a pinch-hit two-run double. Charlie Blackmon added an RBI double and scored a run. Chris Rusin earned the win in relief and Greg Holland picked up his 38th save. Justin Turner was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for the Dodgers. Austin Barnes went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Yu Darvish gave up five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.
The Dodgers are primed to bust out at some point, so why not tonight? They are huge favorites for a reason and Wood is in the midst of a fantastic season, although he hasn’t been as great in the second half. We trust him tonight against a Rockies lineup that typically struggles away from Coors Field. Bettis hasn’t pitched well since his wonderful first two starts, so expect the Dodgers to hit him hard.
