2012 MLB All-Star Game General Information:
The 2012 MLB All-Star Game will mark the 83rd edition of the Midsummer Classic. Kauffman Stadium is the home of the Royals and this will be the third time the All-Star Game will be held in Kansas City. The last time the city hosted the event was in 1973, which was the first year of the stadium’s existence. In that game, the National League rolled to a 7-1 victory.
Past 10-Year History:
In the past 10 years, the American League has dominated the All-Star Game, although the National League has won two straight so the tide may be turning. In 2002, a 7-7 tie sparked controversy and later influenced commissioner Bud Selig’s decision to make the All-Star Game count for something. Now, the winning league will host the World Series that same year. Throwing out the tie, the AL has won seven of the past nine All-Star Games, with the NL winning the last two. In the 2011 MLB All-Star Game, Prince Fielder helped the National League cruise to a 5-1 victory at Chase Field in Arizona. Fielder hit at three-run homer in the game and the NL’s pitching staff dominated a lackluster American League offense.
