Odds: Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog currently list the National League as –115 money line favorites over the American League, which is +105 on the ML. The over/under total is currently sitting at 8.5 runs.
Pitching Matchup: Roy Halladay will oppose Jered Weaver in tonight’s pitching matchup. Of course, starters usually only go two innings before giving way to a new pitcher, so take this matchup with a grain of salt. Doc heads into the All-Star Break with a 2.45 ERA, while Weaver has a 1.86 ERA and dazzling 0.91 WHIP to go along with his 11-4 record and 120 strikeouts.
Public Betting: Of the 11,800-plus wagers on tonight’s game, 59% of the MLB betting public favors the American League at +107.
MLB Free Pick: Their 3-1 victory in last year’s All-Star Game was the National League’s first win over the American League since 1996. The majority of the betting public believes that the better players still reside in the American League, but last year’s win for the National League might represent a change in the tide. Either way, I’d recommend staying away from the side and taking a hard look at the total. Chase Field can be a bandbox and even though baseball has transformed back into a pitcher’s game, I see tonight’s contest being relatively high scoring. I could see a 4-4 tie late in the game, with the winning run providing the 9 runs to secure the over.
