Houston stayed alive in the ALCS and evened it at 3-3 with a 7-1 victory Friday night. New York is now 98-76 on the season including the playoffs and 41-46 on the road, while Houston is 107-65 and 53-33 at home. The Astros have won six of the last 10 in the season series and the total has gone over seven times.
Pitching for the Yankees in Game 7 will be CC Sabathia (14-5, 3.69 ERA), while the Astros are turning the ball over to Charlie Morton (14-7, 3.62). Sabathia had a 1.27 WHIP with 120 strikeouts over 148 2’/3 innings during the regular season. He threw six shutout innings with three hits allowed, five strikeouts and four walks in an 8-1 home victory in Game 3 of the series. Sabathia is 7-3 with a 3.18 ERA over 73 2/3 road innings this year. Morton carried a 1.19 WHIP with 163 strikeouts in 146 2/3 innings in the regular season. He was shelled for seven earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks over 3 2/3 innings during the Game 3 loss. He is 10-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 97 home innings this year.
In Game 6, Justin Verlander threw seven shutout innings to win his second game of the series and fourth of the postseason. He is now 9-0 with the Astros. Jose Altuve was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to pace the offense. Carlos Correa went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Alex Bregman went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Brian McCann was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Aaron Judge hit a solo home run for the Yankees’ lone score, while Chase Headley finished 2-for-4. Luis Severino gave up three earned runs over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
The over is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings overall, but 13-6 in the last 19 meetings in Houston.
Morton had some bad luck in Game 3 as he only had one ball hit very hard against him. Expect him to be much better in Game 7 at home, where he excelled this year. Astros ace Dallas Keuchel is available out of the bullpen. Meanwhile, even though Houston didn’t hit Sabathia in Game 3 it is a lineup that routinely torched left-handed pitching this season. New York is below .500 on the road in 2017 and the better team should prevail here, which is the Astros.
