Smyly hurls gem

Drew Smyly threw seven shutout innings Saturday in a 5-0 victory for Philadelphia at New York. Smyly allowed four hits to go with six strikeouts and two walks in the sparkling effort to pick up the win. Cesar Hernandez helped lead the Phillies offensively as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Corey Dickerson went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. J.T. Realmuto ended the contest 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Vince Velasquez draws the start this afternoon as he enters with a 6-7 record, 4.80 ERA and 1.35 WHIP plus 108 strikeouts over 99 1/3 innings pitched.

Mets shut out on five hits

New York was unable to cross the play Saturday in wihat ended as a 5-0 home loss to Philadelphia. Marcus Stroman took the loss on the mound as he surrendered five runs (four earned) on 10 hits over four innings, striking out six and walking none. Pete Alonso led the Mets offense as he was 2-for-4 with a double. Jeff McNeil went 1-for-3 plus a walk. Juan Lagares ended the game 1-for-3. Noah Syndergaard gets the start today for New York as he comes in with a 10-7 record, 3.97 ERA and 1.18 WHIP plus 171 strikeouts across 170 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

The Phillies are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games. Philadelphia is 7-16 in the last 23 Velasquez road starts.

New York

The Mets are 1-7 in their last eight home games. New York is 10-4 in the last 14 Syndergaard starts.

Aside from a horrendous start against the Cubs, Syndergaard has been in great form lately and with the Mets firmly in desperation mode I expect another fantastic start out of the power righty. Velasquez is inconsistent on the other side of the coin and the Mets should be able to get on base frequently and put themselves in position to put up a decent amount of runs and enough for Syndergaard to coast to a win.
