Athletics on a win streak again
Oakland has been one of the hottest teams since the All-Star Break and they come into this game just 1.5 games behind Houston in the AL West. The Athletics are coming off three straight wins at Minnesota. Oakland is 79-52 overall and 40-26 on the road. Oakland is putting up 4.78 runs per game on offense while allowing 4.08 per contest on defense.
Brett Anderson gets the start for the Athletics this evening. He is 3-3 through 12 starts this year and has a 3.47 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. Anderson has 33 strikeouts and 12 walks over 62.1 innings of work this season.
Astros rolling
The Houston Astros have won five straight road games over the Mariners and Angels before returning home from a nine-game road trip. The Astros are now 80-50 overall and 33-29 at home. Houston is scoring 4.96 runs per game this year while allowing just 3.32 per contest.
Gerrit Cole will make the start for the Astros on Monday night. He has an 11-5 record over 26 starts this year. Cole has a 2.73 ERA with a 1.01 WHIP. Over 164.2 innings of work, Cole has 226 strikeouts with 52 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics have won six straight Monday games and 17 of their last 22 division games.
Houston
The Astros have won five straight in the division and seven of Cole’s last nine starts at home.
Prediction:
Like his team, Anderson has been rolling lately. Over his last four starts, he has allowed just two runs. That spans a total of 26.2 innings. He also has just two walks in that span. However, Anderson has a 4.06 ERA on the road and he gave up nine runs in three innings in his only start against Houston this year. Cole has a 2.92 ERA in four starts against the Athletics. He knows this lineup well and should be very comfortable at home. I like Houston to continue its win streak after a long road trip.
The Pick: Houston Astros -180
