Giants score five in ninth to win
San Francisco stunned the host Dodgers last night as it scored four times in the ninth inning to post a 5-2 victory at Los Angeles. Nick Hundley was 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit two-run single to help key the charge. Andrew McCutchen and Gorkys Hernandez were both 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Chase d’Arnaud finished 1-for-4 with a run. Steven Duggar was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Ray Black struck out two in a perfect inning of work to earn the win. Will Smith notched his ninth save as he walked one and struck out one in a scoreless ninth.
Dodgers blow fourth straight save
Los Angeles is scrambling to figure out who to close games with Kenley Jansen sidelined with an irregular heartbeat. Scott Alexander blew the save last night as he gave up four earned runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss. Clayton Kershaw had previously allowed one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over eight innings. Justin Turner helped lead the LA offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Austin Barnes was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. Kershaw helped his own cause by going 1-for-3 with an RBI single.
Andrew Suarez (4-8, 4.64 ERA) starts today for the Giants, while the Dodgers turn to Alex Wood (7-6, 3.56).
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The under is 12-3-1 in the last 16 Giants games on Tuesdays. The under is 5-2-1 in the last eight San Francisco games overall.
Los Angeles
The under is 14-6-2 in the last 22 Los Angeles games on Tuesdays. The over is 6-2 in Wood’s last eight home starts.
Prediction:
Wood returns from the disabled list to start tonight, so he might show some rust even though it was a short DL stay. Suarez has struggled the last couple months and Los Angeles should have no problems getting to him. As long as San Francisco can hang a few runs on Wood, this game should hit the over on the total.
