Athletics slip up
Oakland opened this series on Friday with a 7-0 win, but then slipped up last night in a 3-2 loss to the White Sox. The Athletics are 66-51 overall, 29-28 on the road and 62-54 with the under. Oakland has Chris Bassitt on the mound today. He is 7-5 on the season with a 3.80 ERA.
The Athletics couldn’t do much at the plate on Saturday, scoring their two runs in the ninth inning. They had 10 hits for the contest, stranding 13 baserunners in total. Both Matt Olson and Mark Canha each had two hits to lead Oakland. Both Oakland runs were scored by an error. Tanner Roark took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year. He gave up three runs over 6.2 innings on six hits.
Sox staying warm
Chicago has won five of its last seven thanks to the 3-2 win over the Athletics on Saturday night. Chicago is 52-63 on the season, 28-29 at home and 59-52 with the under. Lucas Giolito gets the start for the White Sox today. He is 12-5 on the year with a 3.44 ERA.
Reynaldo Lopez had a strong start last night, throwing 6.1 scoreless innings to improve to 7-9 on the year. He walked three and allowed six hits. Alex Colome got his 23rd save of the year despite giving up the two unearned runs. At the plate, Eloy Jimenez had his 19th home run on a solo shot while Jose Abreu had a pair of hits.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics are 9-2 in their last 11 Game 3’s of a series and 6-0 in Bassitt’s last six starts against AL Central teams.
Chicago
The White Sox are just 1-5 in their last six home games, but they have won Giolito’s last four Sunday starts.
Prediction:
Despite the loss yesterday, Oakland has been dominant against the AL Central in recent years. Bassitt takes the mound today and he has been pretty steady over the last month. He had a 3.95 ERA for July and a 3.00 ERA thus far in August. He threw six scoreless against the White Sox earlier this year as well. Giolito hasn’t been too bad either, but I worry about his hitting support. Even in a loss, Oakland still out-hit Chicago last night. The Athletics just couldn’t bring the runs in.
MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -135
