Rays hammer Jays
The Rays opened the series on Friday with a dominant 7-0 win over Toronto. They have won three of their last four. Tampa is now 59-57 overall and 25-33 on the road. Tampa is putting up 4.23 runs per game this season while allowing 4.15 per contest.
Reliever Ryne Stanek gets the start for the Rays this evening. He has started 18 games this season and appeared in a total of 37. Stanek has a 1-3 record with a 2.56 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. Stanek has 60 strikeouts and 19 walks over 45.2 innings of work.
Blue Jays struggling on the mound
The Blue Jays have lost four of their last five following Friday’s loss. They have allowed 38 runs over these last five games. Toronto is now 52-63 overall and 28-31 at home. Toronto is putting up 4.51 runs per game on offense while allowing 5.13 per game.
Sam Gaviglio gets the start for the Blue Jays tonight. He is just 2-4 through 15 starts this season. Gaviglio has a 5.08ERA and a 1.44 WHIP this year and he has 74 strikeouts and 27 walks over 78.0 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa
The Rays have lost Stanek’s last six road starts and they are just 8-20 in their last 28 road games.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 1-6 in their last seven home games, but they have won four of Gaviglio’s last five home starts.
Prediction:
The Rays have won four straight meetings with Toronto and they looked very strong on Friday night. Can the reliever/starter continue to work? Stanek’s last outing against was poor, as he gave up two runs to Baltimore. He has struggled with the Orioles for some reason, but I think he will give the team a nice start against Toronto. Gaviglio was lit up for five runs over 3.1 innings against the Rays earlier this year as well.
The Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -110
