Pirates hit three HRs in win
Starling Marte helped pace the Pittsburgh offense last night in a 10-2 win at the Rockies as he went 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Gregory Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Francisco Cervelli ended the night 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and an RBI. Josh Harrison finished 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Jordy Mercer was 2-for-4 with a 3-run homer. Jameson Taillon threw a complete game as he gave up two earned runs while scattering 10 hits, striking out three and walking one.
Bettis gives up nine earned runs
Colorado starting pitcher Chad Bettis was shelled for nine earned runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings yesterday, striking out three and walking two. Charlie Blackmon finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Carlos Gonzalez was 1-for-4 with a double and drove in two. Ryan McMahon finished 2-for-3 with a walk.
Chris Archer (3-5, 4.40 ERA) will start today for the Pirates, while German Marquez (9-8, 4.70) draws the start for Colorado.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 8-3 in their last 11 Wednesday games. The over is 14-6 in the last 20 Pittsburgh road games.
Colorado
The under is 13-4-1 in the last 18 Rockies home games. Colorado is 6-2 in its last eight Wednesday games.
Prediction:
Archer was Pittsburgh’s prized trade acqusition and it gave up a lot in the deal, so he’ll need to be solid going forward to make good on the investment. He draws a tough matchup here at Coors Field, but will likely get run support to work with. Archer is the better pitcher in the game today and I’ll take a chance on that alone, not to mention the Pirates offense will entering in fine form after Tuesday’s performance.
